Types of Grants

Project Grants

These one-time and multi-year grants are generally for amounts above $15,000. More specifically, the Foundation considers grants for innovative projects that aid research in advancing the frontiers of arts and culture, education, health, and human services. Grants are not made for ongoing or expanding programs where substantial initial support was previously provided from other sources. Three principal criteria are strictly adhered to in judging the merits of a proposed project.

Planning Grants

Planning grants from the Barra Foundation are intended to assist organizations to evaluate the launch of a new venture, to pursue strategic initiatives in response to revised vision and/or mission statements, or to deal with changes influenced by the external environment. Some examples may include: consideration of innovative new programs and service areas; unique programs to generate revenues; strategic re-structuring of the entity; mergers and collaborative undertakings; and other challenging opportunities.

Community Fund Grants

Community Fund grants provide unrestricted contributions to qualified organizations in the five county Philadelphia, PA area, consisting of Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. These grants are awarded in amounts between $2,000 and $15,000 per year.
